Just as many other Vizrt applications, Viz World is fully template based. Viz Arena can display real-time distance, height and velocity measurements on grass, track, snow, water, and in 3D space. Local terrain maps, on a small or large scale, can be overlaid to show the detailed contours of a surface area. This is particularly useful for events with no standard field layout, such as ski jumping or golf. Similarly, team badges and sponsors' logos can be laid down on a surface over which players can walk. Alternatively, a virtual foreground object can be keyed onto the video coverage and players will appear behind or in front of the object, making it an integral part of the video experience.

Image-based tracking

Using a clean video feed, with at least two visible straight lines, Viz Arena can simulate camera tracking in real-time. The system recognizes the pattern of the pitch, creating the model instantly. This makes it possible to apply graphics to the field without mechanical tracking heads. Therefore, to generate their own virtual graphics in-house, all that broadcasters need is a video tape of a sports event. This functionality allows them to include virtual sports graphics in their programming without investing in a traditional camera-tracking system.

The tracking data is linked to recorded video material. By using a fast DDR, the director can overlay virtual graphics, in replay, seconds after an event takes place.

Image-based tracking can also be used to compensate for cameras on unstable ground, or cameras with a very high zoom. The image recognition system corrects the mechanical tracking data, thereby creating a steady result.

Viz Dart runs on a central scheduling server that is placed in your data or broadcast center to connect to your video servers (encoders) and video router(s) via either IP or serial interface (depending on device requirements). Multiple redundant scheduling servers can also be used for higher availability. The scheduling server is responsible for orchestrating the recording of feeds entered into the schedule. During the record process video router and video server are controlled creating new files and assets in Viz Media Engine. Viz Dart is commonly deployed with Viz Video Engine, but other third party video servers both SDI and IP-based are compatible with the system. The scheduling server can also be extended with a wide number of modules to integrate with third party systems. Using these integration modules Viz Dart will control such systems as video routers, video servers and dish control messaging allowing you to reuse existing infrastructure.

The web-based client provides a user interface that is collaborative, easy to use, drag and drop style graphical editing of scheduled recordings. The client can be run simultaneously on multiple desktops within your facility. When scheduling, the ingest operator can associate metadata with the recording using the same configurable metadata model that is used in Viz Media Engine. The scheduling server monitors the schedule and controls the video server and registers new content in the Viz Media Engine. While the recording is ongoing. Viz Media Engine will also automatically perform purging and retrieval to centrally managed longer-term storage, eliminating the need for storage micro-management of the video server.

The Viz Video Engine is a cost-effective broadcast live video recorder for SDI acquisition. The recorder is controlled and managed by our Media Asset Management system, Viz Media Engine.

A single engine handles four channels, each capable of recording files from an extensive selection of HD and SD broadcast video formats. All video is wrapped in the MXF format, stored locally and made accessible through an FTP interface. Files are automatically moved and transcoded to centrally managed storage by Viz Media Engine. This means assets can be searched, previewed and edited from Viz Media Engine – even while recording is still ongoing. Once recording completes Viz Media Engine automatically deletes unwanted media.

Feed Acquisition

For feed acquisition, the recorder is controlled by our feed scheduler, Viz Dart. An operator makes a booking for recording of a particular source feed and enriches it with metadata, using Viz Dart's scheduling client. Viz Dart monitors the schedule, controls the recording and notifies Viz Media Engine of the new asset. Once notified, files are automatically moved and transcoded to centrally managed storage by Viz Media Engine. This enables searching, previewing and editing of the feed from within Viz Media Engine within a few seconds of feed acquisition starting, and while it is still ongoing.
